Chicago in the 07

So, I visited Chicago for the first time last year or the year before that (I really don’t remember). I had a great time overall. I met some really cool bloggers (that may now be non-blogging or anonymously blogging citizens) and I did some site seeing. The site seeing was nothing really major. As a matter of fact, I really only saw the strip that I went shopping on and the sites that we passed as K drove us around (I am still so appreciative of you).  Anyway, at the end of June, I’m going back. Unfortunately, I won’t be there for the fourth of July, but I will be leaving there on the 3rd.

I’m really looking forward to that. This time, I’m rolling dolo. I haven’t invited anyone to come with me and I haven’t even really advertised that I’m going. At least, I haven’t until now. I look forward to some time away from my life as it is right now.

Sense of self…worth

For a long time now, people have accused me of viewing the world through rose colored glasses. Many feel that I am naive enough to believe that there aren’t many Anglo Saxons that harbor disdain or even disinterest for people of color. They think that my decision to focus my energies on uplifting myself and my family by distancing myself from certain aspects of stereotypical blackness, means that I hate black people. Today, I profess that that is not completely true. Although, I did contemplate creating a t-shirt to wear that simply states that I don’t heart black people (and sometimes, I hate black people). But I thought that that would be too controversial.

Alabama, Enterprise, and Flat Tires

I believe that it is very clear from reading my blog that I am extremely close with my family members. What many people might not know, though, is that is wasn’t always this way. As a matter of fact, I grew up not knowing them that well. It was so rough that when one cousin (my first cousin) invited my sister and I to come to their house and stay over, my mother refused. Prior to my cousin asking, we’d only been to ONE sleepover in ALL of our lives.

Accountability

Stuff happened

I didn’t re-invent myself. I’m still me- just donning new drama. Lord, I wish I could turn back the hands of time. But, I guess this is life. This is what we’re here for. We make mistakes and we deal with the consequences.
